Service and Advocacy
As a student and teacher I was acutely aware that accessibility and inclusion in science education requires work, because the system was not built for either
In 2020 I founded the Biology Department's Diversity - Equity - Inclusion - Justice Committee at the University of Illinois at Chicago
Co-authored department’s action plans and initiatives to meet university-wide goals of advancing racial equity and campus diversity.
A synopsis of how the department is working to accomplish the goals set is held within our website. I designed and manage this website built of resources for inclusive and accessible teaching strategies and self-education about diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in biology and education.
Science in Society
Weekly afterschool science club for Chicago Public School 6th-8th graders funded and operated through Northwestern University.
Students work with PhD candidates from around Chicago to experiment through various science curriculums and lead their own research projects. Students ultimately perform 30% higher in STEM skills like data analysis and experimental design.
